Access to mental health treatment is one of the most critical issues facing our district, our county and our state. As I made clear during my campaign for 1st District County Commissioner, I am committed to securing resources to locate treatment for all residents in our community who are living with mental illness.

In the November 2014 elections I focused my efforts on a countywide advisory referendum asking the state for additional funding for mental health services. In November that referendum received roughly 1.4 million votes. Since then I have been hard at work on assembling a coalition in Cook County Government and the Illinois General Assembly to leverage the referendum results to secure increased funding. Mental Health organizations throughout Illinois do so much to connect Cook County residents to the quality care that is both a human right and a moral imperative.
